The fundamental difference is the printing architecture. A flatbed plotter has a moving carriage that repeatedly moves over a stationary product – the image is built belt by belt. A flow printer has a stationary head bar covering the entire width of the print – the product moves under it only once, and all layers are applied simultaneously. The practical effect? Many times higher throughput and perfect layer matching in a flow printer. Instead, the flatbed plotter offers greater flexibility for widely varying formats and thicknesses.
